LKD 2007: As Lengthy As I Can Afford

Filed Under (School) by evilgenius on 14-07-2007

This is gonna be longest post I’ve ever posted in the moment. Bear with me, and please, go grab a popcorn or something.

090707

Evening.

Three buses departed from SMI Aman towards the location of this year’s Latihan Kepimpinan Diri / Muhayyam [camping]; Kem Kijang, a place rumored to be ‘keras’ [Muahahaha!~]. The place was huge and I was looking forward to be greeted by a bunch of cute little kijang running here and there.

Unfortunately, I was disappointed. No kijang lay their lair there but the place was abundant with cats. They were tame and cute but I’m only interested in fat male cats.

I officially renamed the place: Kem Kucing.

Girls were divided into three teams; Team 6 [assigned to Komander Bob and K. Zainab], Team 7 [K. Sufi, K. Saiyidah and Nik-chan] and Team 8 [K. Atiqah and K. Nikochan]. AJK Kerja merely watch over their progresses, eat with them, but we have our own tent.

The girls set up their A tents while us the AJK Kerja poked our noses here and there. We weren’t supposed to help, but me and Nikochan pitied our helpless team so we figured out a little bit of help won’t hurt.

If any of you guys read my entry of Jamboree 2007, you would notice that I’ve sworn to kick every pointless A tent I come across. Well, it was a gruesome test of my self-control.

Sabar, sabar seems to be my mantra for the rest of the camping.

Night.

During Maghrib, all students were required to solat jamai’ on the field. AJK Kerja was on duty of watching over the camp 24-7. I was on duty that time.

Alone.

I bet you guys thought I will freak my head out, being left alone in the vast campsite. During dusk, nonetheless. Anything could happen.

But I was cool. Am so not afraid, but it was inappropriate. "Mira, tolong panggilkan sorang lagi Komander," I told Mir. "Ika tak kesah jaga sorang-sorang, tapi Ika tak patut."

Well, none came. Nik-chan later told me that Zainab said, "Takpe la Atiqah jaga sorang-sorang. Kalau dia tak hilang, tempat tu selamat, lah."

I’m heavenly fortunate to have acquaintances like them, am I?

I spent the rest of my watch running around the camp, chasing after cats who seems very much interested in poking their small pea-sized brain head into the tents. Armed with a bamboo pole and my fists, of course.

That night, there was an ice breaking conducted by the one and only Abdul Jalil Abdullah. He talked about ‘Emotion Management’, which was okay.

Most slept around 0030 am, including me. I tried to sleep inside, but I couldn’t as I was mercilessly attacked by a whole platoon of mosquitoes. I groggily woke up at 0130 am for my hirasah watch.

Nothing exciting happened. [Finished my watch at 3 and plopped asleep on the mat outside of tent.]

Morning.

I woke up at 0515, a bit late. The others said they woke me on time, but I merely said I’m up and went back to sleep. I swear I didn’t remember myself saying that!

Am so not a morning person.

Beloved Malek-sama announced on the mike that anyone are free to dedicate speeches during breakfast. Aiman Ibrahim was first, saying Happy Birthday to one of the boys.

If Aiman can do it, so can I!~

"Assalamualaikum dan selamat pagi kepada semua. Di sini saya ingin mengucapkan selamat hari jadi kepada Nusaibah Adam yang akan menyambut hari jadinya pada 15 Julai ini. Juga kepada semua Fatayat, sila membuat air milo yang sedap kerana Komander Atiqah dan Komander Sufiyyah akan singgah ke kem anda sebentar lagi!~"

I’ve Milo fetish went I go camping. Don’t ask me why.

Team 8 made sandwich and tea. I ate one kaya-flavored and ran to Team 6, waiting for Team 7 to finish making their Milo. Nik-chan called me later, inviting me to taste the Milo her team made.

Milo made my day.

At 0800, there was Kawad competition. I was on watch duty with Sufi, when suddenly Bob walked up towards the camp after nearly one hour the competition started.

She had an emotional accident, so I told her to stay at camp with Sufi, while I replace her duty watching over the kids.

Afternoon.

BaSeD competition. I stayed at camp, watch-duty again with someone I’ve forgotten. Took a much needed bath and killed the time by death-glaring cats who came within one meter of me.

Night.

Had to admit, that night gave me a slight chill. Felt something not right, so I merely shut myself up and spoke as little as I can. Zainab and Nusaibah was on watch-duty.

There’s Latihan Dalam Kumpulan arranged by facilitators form the nearby Jaiputra College.

Title: Tunggul Kayu.

Objective: Memberikan pengajaran kepada mereka yang sering tidak memberikan perhatian ketika guru / orang lain sedang memberi nasihat kepada mereka.

Apparatus / materials:

  1. A team.
  2. 2-3 naughtiest students in the team.
  3. 1-2 AJK Kerja.

Technique:

  1. Choose two of the naughtiest member in your assigned team.
  2. Take them away from their team. The facilitator and one AJK are to stay with the rest of the team.
  3. The students taken away are told to prepare their speech. When given the cue, on student is expected to give a talk to their team on whatever subject she wanted to.
  4. The team are expected to make noises, ignoring the her totally.
  5. Repeat step 3 and 4 using the other students.
  6. Record their reactions when their team paid them no heed.

Observation:

  1. For Team 7, A, B and C were chosen.
  2. A was the first to go. She was ‘geram’, ’sedih’ and she realized what the objective was without needing to be told.
  3. B was also ‘geram’, ’sedih’ but she was cool several moment later.
  4. C "Rasa nak pelempang je semua orang!". Sadly, she didn’t cool down afterward.

Conclusion:

  1. A and B and the rest of the team was cool and they can manage their emotion okay-ly.
  2. C went ‘mechok’. She needs counseling. And I assure you, she will.

Afterward, there was Recall. As usual, the faci made the students weep. I, in-deliberately, fell asleep.

Nik-chan woke me up when all students weep and hug each others, apologizing and the like. During that time, a friend of mine was sick with gastric and she sat down for the time being.

The night ended okay.

110707

Morning.

Me and Nikochan sat on the field, watching students getting ready for Qiamullail jamai’. Suddenly…

"LA ILAHA ILLALLAH! MUHAMMADAN RASULULLAH!"

"LA ILAHA ILLALLAH! MUHAMMADAN RASULULLAH!"

Me and Nikochan stared at each other. "Ape tu?"

"Tu suara Nik-chan." I shrugged. It was 0530 am. "Mesti dia nak kejutkan budak yang malas bangun."

Malek-sama came and asked what was going on. I answered my answers, but Amirah Nik Mazian begged to differ. "Entah la," she said. She just came from camp. "Tadi bunyi cam ada orang histeria…"

I stared at Nik. "Okay kan, kalau awak jaga sini sorang-sorang?"

"Okay."

I ran back to camp. Trouble brewed. Just as suspected the night before.

Mid-morning.

There was an obstacled run. After that, Rashid-sensei-sama demonstrated on how to slaughter a chicken. Each team was given one since there was a cooking competition that afternoon.

Most girls were chickened of the chickens, including the one and only Bob. She tripped on a tree root while trying to escape a chicken running towards her.

Her knee was scrapped rather ugli-ly.

Zainab slaughtered ours, while me and Sufi did the cleaning, with Nik-chan poking her nose between us two. Later on, me and Nik-chan barbecued it, tandoori flavored.

Smack your lips, everyone!

Afternoon.

Performance competition. I was on duty at camp with Nik-chan and Sufiyyah.

Evening.

Operasi Khidmat Masyarakat at PCB. Me, Bob and Sufi was left at camp. I was getting bored with watch-duty.

Bob was left because her knee pained.

Sufi was left because she was to help Mlmh Masrina in conducting the Ikatan competition.

Me? I was the judge of the Pertolongan Cemas competition, with Sufi as the trusty sidekick.

As the judge, here are some of my observation of the notable teams:-

The Pembantu Jurulatih PC.

They were a tad bit disappointing. Couldn’t even answer my simple questions on CPR.

I asked Muhd Asyraf Nizar: "CPR tu ape?"

"Erm, ape ek?" He scratched his hair. "Tak ingat."

"Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation." I sighed.

"Oh ye!"

I asked Nurul Hikmah Omar, "Ape benda pertama kita buat bile ada orang pengsan?"

"Kita tanya dia okay atau tak." She lightly slapped the face of her ‘fallen’ friend. "Hey, awak tak ape-ape ke?"

I mentally smacked her head. "Kita check keliling dia dulu la, dik. Cari punca dia pengsan…"

God, students should be taught the basics of first aid.

Team 4

Ali-san the smartass brat. I asked him, "Apa kegunaan anduh tangan [sling]?"

He was squatting, and stared at me who was standing. "Kan dah tahu."

"Apa kegunaan anduh tangan?" I asked calmly.

"Kan dah tahu? Kenapa nak tanya lagi?"

"Awak jangan berlagak bijak dengan saya, Ali." I fanged my fangs. "Apa kegunaan anduh tangan??"

He answered in a bored tone. I’ve lost my already thinning respect for that bragging little smart brat.

Team 5.

This team consisted of my dear classmate, Aiman Ibrahim as the team taichou. He was brilliant, may I add.

He taught the other kids CPR when I was judging other team. By far, his team fared the most during the CPR test. But their downfall was their untidiness during tying the anduhs.

Aiman was a good kid with a high level of leadership. He needs as much guidance as he can get.

The problem is is his manners. He’s a five-year-old trapped in a body of an hoary 16-year-old.

Night.

After what happened that morning, everyone wanted to be excused from watch-duty. I was eternally irked.

"Ape alasan korang tak nak jaga kem?" I glared those irresponsible so-called-AJK Kerja. "T-A-K-U-T?"

"Atiqah, kawal emosi awak." Zainab smiled. Well, you’re the so-called-leader of the AJK Kerja, shouldn’t you show a good example and volunteer yourself for watch-duty?

Irked, I was. "Kalau korang takut sangat, biar saya jaga kem malam ni!"

They fall in silent. Then they voted for two others who would stay with me on duty. Saiyidah and Nik-chan was the lucky one.

Both were obviously not happy. "Tadi dah jaga kem dah…" I heard Nik said.

I stayed put on the mat, watching chickens walking with the other students towards the Assembly Lot for the boys’ Performance competition. Sufi came back afterward.

"Kak Nab tanya muallimah tadi," she looked hesitant as she faced me. "Muallimah kata, tak pe kalau Komander tak jaga kem malam ni."

She continued talking, but I paid no heed. From what I understood, they wanted so badly to not to watch over the camp. I finally stood up.

"Kak Tiqah nak pergi tengok persembahan ke?"

"Semua orang nak pergi, kan? Habis tu? Buat ape saya bangun?" Ah, I’m the ever sarcastic domestic goddess.

I’m easily irked, especially at irresponsibles.

At the Assembly Lot, I fall asleep.

After returning back to camp that night, we were to read Al-Mulk before going to sleep. The girl who had an accident that morning refused to read it with her teammates, so Zainab opted to reading it beside her in her tent.

"Nik," she asked Nik-chan. "Temanlah saya."

"Tak nak. Awak ajak la Atiqah."

I read Al-Mulk with Zainab by the girl’s side. After that, we proceeded with Yaa Siin.

The night ended with me sleeping outside, while teachers roamed around our campsite; making sure nothing bad happened.

Hah!

120707

Morning.

Zainab and me was supposed to hirasah at 0300, but we didn’t wake up. So we compensated by watching over the camp while others Qiamullail jamai’ on the field.

We qiam-ed on our own, until one of the lamp switched off after a bug flew towards it. Then, Nik-chan and Nasibah ran passed us, hand in hand, towards the teachers’ chalet. It was 0530.

Me and Zainab stared at each other. "Kenapa Nik?" I asked.

"Dia histeria lagi." She answered hastily and ran off.

Me and Zainab stared at each other. "Kita nak kene pergi ke?"

"Jom."

I grabbed all the Qurans available, put on my trusty sandals and ran off towards the field.

Afternoon.

The awaited Closing Ceremony. Let dash on towards the results:-
